How to Cure and Prevent Chapped Sore Lips

A guide to take your lips from chapped, cracked and sore to lips of luscious, kissable beauty.
.... don't forget to follow my Beauty pages on Pinterest
The soft perfect lips that girls strive to have!
The soft perfect lips that girls strive to have!

It is freezing cold this morning, -4ÂșC to be exact with a cold biting wind, AND a weather warning of heavy snow on it's way this weekend, even worse my whole family is suffering with sore lips, some of us have colds and others have been out in that cold nasty biting wind without protecting our lips. My son works outside and so his need for relief from this dreadful condition seems to be worse than the rest of us, for those of you in the same position I'd advice using lip care that is specfically designed for skiing, they contain very rich moisturisers and most have advanced UVB protection with photostability which protects your lips form drying and is water resistant.

The water resistance part is important and helps with that awful thing that we all do that we're not supposed to when we have damaged lips - we lick them - don't be ashamed it's human nature - an automatic reaction to the feeling of dry lips, we just can't help it, it's like not chewing a Rowntree's Fruit Pastille - don't ask me to do something I can't manage it's torture.

Prevention really is the key thing here, so if you don't have sore lips now then make sure you protect them and stay that way because it can happen so fast and so painfully. It is with that in mind that I decided to look into the dos and don'ts of curing this awful problem in the hope that I can help somebody out there and of course myself and my family in the process.

STEP 1

Make sure that you are drinking enough water, your lips and skin is cracking? It's a sure sign that your body isn't hydrated enough. So increase your water intake, well we all know we should be drinking more water and it's great for flushing out any toxins in your body.

STEP 2

Find a lip balm that works for YOU ... someone's cure might not be the cure for you.

There are many, many salves, balms, oils, remedies out there, and until I started doing a little research I never realised just how many there are, of course there are also a whole host of everyday household natural remedies you can use and with a little Google-ing I'm sure you can find something to play with, but in the meantime here are a few that I tried.

Options That I Tried:

Vaseline some people swear by good old Vaseline, well for me it works for a short while but then for some reason it stops working, my lips seem to get worse, someone told me that if you use too much Vaseline you are sealing your lips and preventing them from getting any air and that is not a good thing either and can exacerbate the problem, which is what happened with me. If you are going to go down the Vaseline route I suggest you make sure that you use their specially designed Vaseline for lips, yes it's lighter and if they've designed it especially for your lips then that should be a good enough clue. I like the one with the Aloe Vera in it but they have lots of different varieties and I just love those cute little coloured tins that it comes in.
Avon Tinted Lip Care with Beeswax - this is a lovely, lovely lip balm. I was very surprised when it arrived as it looked like one of the skiing type ones and was white in colour, then I noticed tiny flecks of pink in the white. However even more surprising was that when it was applied it became very pink, probably a lot pinker than I would have liked as I thought I was going for a natural hint of pink. I eventually used this along with one of my favourite lipsticks which is a nude/neutral colour to calm it down.

However, it is a really good lip balm, which needs re-applying less often than some of the others and keeps your lips moist and kissable despite the weather. This lip balm was tried out this weekend in a very snowy, cold and wet Rome, Italy (yes it snowed in Rome), I have returned with still very soft un-chapped lips which for me is an absolute miracle. It comes in 3 colour options, the pink which I chose was the lightest of them and I think they need to make it much paler as I wouldn't wear it without covering it up, can be a bit neonish in some lighting. But definitely worth a buy - RRP £7.00, I purchased it on sale from my lovely Avon lady for an amazing £3.50 and now my 12 year old daughter wants one too.
Blistex (previously known as Blisteze) this has always been my 'if nothing else works this will and why didn't I use this in the first place?'. Previously called Blisteze, and why do people who work in Pharmacies look at you as if you're stupid when you call it Blisteze? It's been called that since I was kid it's not my fault some idiot decided to re-brand it. So Blistex as it now is, this is a marvel, one of the drawbacks, which if you've ever used it you will know, is that you take the cute little red cap off the top of the tube and the cream inside goes "wheeeeeeee escape" and pours out all over the place, I think the manufacturers do this on purpose, I mean they must know it does this, this does eventually settle down after you've used it 10 or 15 times, so after losing nearly a third of the tube this very light thin cream, looks very unimpressive but works wonders. The relief is practically instantaneous, it pleasantly minty, tingly in a good way, and you can suddenly open your mouth without your lips cracking and hurting - buy it, try it, love it!
Cocoa Butter Cream this smelled lovely, that's the first thing that struck me, I used the one made by The Body Shop and it is recommended for Very Dry Skin. So lips are made of skin and they're very dry - you see my logic here? First off, it didn't hurt, major plus, but then it felt really dry, still the nice smell did seem to lift my spirits just a tad, and it contains Shea Butter which I know is also reputed to be excellent for dry skin. I even rubbed some into my hands at the same time - my hands ADORED it - my lips weren't unhappy with it, didn't really feel right a bit stiff feeling, just not as ecstatic as my hands about it, but as I said no stinging and when I went out in the cold wind to get some other products it protected my lips until I got to the Chemist.

Sandawana Emeralds - Better Than Colombian Emeralds?

Colombian Emerald or Sandawana Emerald?

The Sandawana Emerald is probably one of the most rare stones in the world so it holds its value well. It is strikingly beautiful, and women, like Liz Taylor and Angelina Jolie, have dazzled many when wearing them. Emeralds are mined in most countries in the world, but two particular types of emeralds stand out - the Sandawana emerald from an area in Zimbabwe with the same name and the Colombian emerald from Colombia.
Colombian emerald tends to be the popular choice as they are more freely available and less expensive. The colour ranges from a yellow green to a very dark blue green. The Sandawana emerald is always a very dark blue green.

Characteristics of Emeralds

Some stones, found in the same mines as emeralds, are a lighter green. These are called green beryl. It is the intensity of the colour which differentiates green beryl from an emerald. The price difference between an emerald and green beryl is significant. This is a result of the rarity of the green coloured stones.
Emeralds are very soft so they break easily and need to be worn with care. In technical language, they have a MOHS hardness of between 7.5 and 8. Should the stone be without inclusions, this would be considered quite strong/hard, but any inclusion within the stone weakens it. Jewelers add oil to the stone to make the inclusion less obvious to the naked eye.
It is the addition of either chromium or vanadium to the beryl stone which makes it green. However, the international standard is that only those stones which are green as a result of chromium are considered to be emeralds.
Basically, Sandawana emeralds are green are a result of chromium while Colombian emeralds are green as a result of vanadium.
The American Jewelry Council has indicated that stones with vanadium are to be considered to be emeralds, but this is not the international standard for the beryllium stone. Stones which obtain their colour from vanadium are less expensive than those which are coloured by chromium. This means that a four carat emerald can be bought in the USA for about $800.
Unusually, whereas prized diamonds have no inclusions, this is not so for this beryllium stone.Whereas an instrument is used to determine the purity of a diamond, the human eye is sufficient to determine whether the green gemstone is to be highly prized for clarity or not. It is extremely rare for an emerald not to have an inclusion. Regardless of this, they are still the most valuable of all coloured stones.
They are valued according to the depth of green color, how pure they are, their weight (number of carats), and brilliance. The way the stone is cut is also important.
Synthetic emeralds have been produced and their chemical and gemological composition is identical to mined stones. Ultraviolet light is used to establish whether stones are mined or manufactured.

Locations Where Emeralds are Mined

Colombia is the world's leading producer of diamonds, producing between 50% and 95% of the world's total, depending on the year. Zambia is the world's second largest producer. The most recent discovery of emeralds was in the Yukon in Canada.
Emeralds are mined predominantly in Colombia, Zambia, Brazil, and Zimbabwe. However, they can also be found in Madagascar, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Canada, and Russia in small numbers.

Magnificent Emerald Jewelry

Zimbabwean Emeralds

The largest mine in Sandawana, Zimbabwe, closed in 2012, leaving another twenty seven mines currently operating.
Initially emeralds greater than three carats were found quite frequently at the Sandawana mine, but that is not so anymore. The norm is now about half a carat.
These stones have a far higher value than those mined in Colombia or elsewhere.
As a jeweller once said, "“The finest emerald I’ve ever seen was a 3-carat Sandawana stone shown me in 1980. It’s owner, an Indian dealer, wanted a mind-boggling $60,000 per carat. But eventually he got it.”
The colour and clarity of the stone have a lot to do with the price that the stone gets in the market place. In the early 80s, when the Sandawana mine production was still in full production, this African emerald was fetching twice the price of emeralds mined elsewhere - $1,600 versus $700 per carat.
Zimbabwean emeralds are green as a result of chromium.
These emeralds saw their peak production in the 50s and 60s, and it's possible that political factors, like UDI and the subsequent takeover by Mugabe, had something to do with the further success of the mines.

Colombian Emeralds

Unusually, emeralds in Colombia are mined from sedimentary host rock as opposed to igneous rock. This means that they are far more pure than emeralds found in other countries. Their green colour comes from vanadium, so technically they wouldn't be classified as an emerald in countries outside the USA.
Most of these precious stones are mined in the east Andes mountain range between Boyaca and Cundinamarca. The top producing mines are Coscuez, Chivor, and Muzo, with Muzo being the most important mine internationally as it produces a grass-green coloured emerald.
The very dark green emerald which is so highly prized internationally is only found at great depth in these mines. As a result of their value, there is a large illicit market operating.
Quaqueros (smugglers) search alongside the RĂo Itoco river in the Muzo valley for stones. They also steal from storage houses where the gemstones are stored before they are cut and polished. During the 80s, there was a civil war (Green Wars) over these stones. There are still conflict and murders, and assassinations are frequent.

Historic Emeralds

The Mogul emerald was found in 1695 and weighs 217 carats. It was last seen in 2001 when it was sold to an unknown buyer for $2.2 million.
The Devonshire emerald is in a vault at the Natural History Museum in London and weighs 1386 carats. It belongs to the Duke of Devonshire and is from Musa in Columbia.
The GachalĂĄ Emerald was mined in 1967, Gachala, Colombia. It was obtained by New York jeweler, Harry Winston, who donated it to the Smithsonian.
For about three hundred years (until just before WWII), emeralds were highly sought after by royalty, the aristocracy, and the very rich as they signaled high status and incredible wealth. When looking at various diadems and crowns made for monarchs, a high percentage of them were not only set with emeralds but had the central stone as a large emerald (or sapphire).
So how do they compare with diamonds?
Not at all.
Sir Ernest Oppenheimer created an artificial scarcity of the stone in the early 40s by mining them and only releasing a few into the market place. Then he used an American advertising company to create the 'A diamond is forever' campaign.' It was arguably the most successful advertising campaign in history as many a lady is convinced that a man's love can only be demonstrated by a 'valuable diamond.'

An Thriller of an Emerald Story!

Emerald Jewelry

Emerald rings range in price from about $300 for a vanadium emerald under one carat to a few thousand pounds in the UK for a three carat chromium emerald. Synthetic emerald stones start from about $15.00 up. It's impossible to differentiate between a natural emerald and an artifical emerald as they are produced using the same minerals as Mother Nature uses.
As human beings, we are drawn to blues (sapphires) as they echo the colour of sea and sky and green (emeralds) because they echo the colour of trees and grass.
Emerald gemstones are used in tiaras, rings, earrings, pendants, and bracelets. Angelina Jolie has worn emerald earrings with matching pendant and Elizabeth Taylor owned some magnificent and very sizable emerald rings and chokers.
Royalty has a preference for blue or green stones for engagement rings rather than diamonds, and it is possible, as the general public begins to realize that diamonds are pretty worthless, that there will be an increase in the popularity of emeralds as engagement rings and dress rings. Currently, they are mostly worn in spectacular earrings and pendants.

Colombian Emeralds or Sandawana Emeralds?

There have been some spectacularly large Colombian emeralds found, and their colour has been as good as those of the Sandawana mines. They also have fewer inclusions. However, there are those who will tell you that the colour of the Zimbabwean emerald is superior, and they still fetch a higher price.
It doesn't really matter where emeralds are mined. Their value is determined according to their colour, their weight (number of carats), and their clarity (number of inclusions).

Do women like body hair on men? Practical body hair advice for guys

Do women like body hair on men? Whether it is chest hair, facial hair, pubic hair, back hair, shoulder hair or the hair on your butt, let's stay away from vague answers and zero down to a Yes or a No on the questions you may have about how girls perceive and feel about body hair on guys. Isn't it high time we stopped beating around the bush, pun intended!
Attention men: From head to toe, find answers to all body hair related questions here.

Whether you want to go bald or carry long locks like Elvis Presley, just make sure that you look cool.
Whether you want to go bald or carry long locks like Elvis Presley, just make sure that you look cool.
1) What do women think about hairstyles?
Guys, honestly, the hair on your head is the least of your worries when it comes to body hair. If you have a nice and fashionable hairstyle or even if you go bald and it suits you, you really have nothing to worry about. Women will not mind if you have long hair or cropped hair as long as you look good in whatever hairstyle you carry.
Answer: Hairstyles don't really matter as long as they look good.
Should you have a beard or not? That's entirely your call. Just make sure that it suits your personality and the overall look that you want to carry.
Should you have a beard or not? That's entirely your call. Just make sure that it suits your personality and the overall look that you want to carry.
2) Should you have a beard? What do women think about facial hair?
The debate about whether facial hair is attractive or not has been going on for centuries and it probably will go on and on and on. Think about facial hair as the personality that you are going to project. So if having a beard comes in the scheme of things of the look that you want to carry, by all means, go for it. If a cleanly shaven look suits well on you, then shave your beard away. It's like asking a woman "Who looks sexier in the movie Troy, Eric Bana with his beard or the cleanly shaven Orlando Bloom?" The bottom line is that everything boils down to personality when it comes to facial hair.
Answer: It matters but as long as facial hair suits your personality, it's fine.
Leave those clean and smooth underarms for women. Underarm hair is considered manly but make sure yours is trimmed and thinned.
Leave those clean and smooth underarms for women. Underarm hair is considered manly but make sure yours is trimmed and thinned.
3) Should men have armpit hair?
Do you have a small bush in your armpits? Don't be surprised if your girl gives a disgusting look and bolts out of the bed and gets you a trimmer. On the other hand, your girl may not like a cleanly shaven armpit either. Confused? Let's elaborate. While underarm hair just sounds wrong, women generally understand, believe and accept that men are not supposed to have silky smooth underarms. It is the concept of being manly that comes into play here. A man is generally not expected to carry a silky smooth armpit. So thin and trim your armpit hair to a short length.
Answer: Trim and thin your underarm hair to a short length.

Unless your job or occupation requires you to have no hair on your arms, have some. It looks and feels natural.
Unless your job or occupation requires you to have no hair on your arms, have some. It looks and feels natural.
4) Are hair on a man's arms a good sight?
It is absolutely okay to have hair on your arms. In fact, a man's arms are not always supposed to be silky smooth. Unless you are a pro body builder or a model/actor who requires his arms to be super clean all the time, it is generally good to have some hair on the arm.
Answer: Yes. It feels natural.
Who better to vouch for the fact that women like chest hair on men than Hugh Jackman himself? Are we taking notes here, guys?
Who better to vouch for the fact that women like chest hair on men than Hugh Jackman himself? Are we taking notes here, guys?
5) Do women like chest hair on men?
If you shave your chest, you are only going to end up hurting your woman in bed with the coarse stubble that re-grows only in a few days. While a waxed chest may make a woman drool or may look amazingly sexy in a poster or in a movie, it is hard to replicate that kind of appeal in real life. To play it safe, trim your chest hair and thin it so that your woman can run her fingers through it without feeling like going through a bush. The most important thing to remember while trimming chest hair is the Tiger Line. Gentlemen, if you didn't know already, the Tiger Line is the line of hair which goes from your chest down to your midriff and down below. Princesswithapen has done an entire segment on just Chest Hair.
Answer: Yes, women like chest hair but strictly in moderation. Chest hair is generally considered manly.

Back hair is generally considered not-so-sexy

6) Do women like shoulder and back hair on men?
Body grooming trends and general thinking points to just one answer when it comes to shoulder and back hair – No. Now don't ask why your girlfriend won't like running her fingers through the hair on your back, especially when she likes doing that on your chest. She just doesn't.
Answer: No.
Don't surprise your woman - Trim your pubic hair
Don't surprise your woman - Trim your pubic hair
7) What are women's thoughts about pubic hair on men?
Just like you will probably not like to go through a gigantic bush to search for your woman's privates, she too will not be a fan of the same. If you are expecting your woman to indulge into any sort of oral you-know-what, make sure that you keep your pubic hair trimmed, short and clutter free. And while you are doing it, make sure you trim all the hair in your groin area.
Answer: No. Trim your pubic hair nice and short.

Unless you are going to be parading around naked, don't fret over hair on the butt.
Unless you are going to be parading around naked, don't fret over hair on the butt.
8) Is hair on a man's butt a welcome sight for women?
The most important point to remember is that you will impress a girl on a date with your manners, good looks and chivalry. The hair on your bum is the last thing going through her mind while she is having a romantic meal and sharing a nice glass of wine with you. Having said that, it is also important to know that hair on the bum is not a turn on for women. It is a generally accepted idea to not have too much of visible butt hair. Hold on though, don't start fretting yet. Girls understand that you may not be able to do a grooming session on your behind often nor is it the most manly of things to do. If you want to be playful in bed, surprise your woman by getting rid of it all only once in a while.
Answer: No. But don't fret over it.

Stay away from extremes - either too cropped/waxed or too furry - when it comes to hair on the legs. All you need to do is trim.
Stay away from extremes - either too cropped/waxed or too furry - when it comes to hair on the legs. All you need to do is trim.
9) Do women like hair on a man's legs?
Your girl may not like to look at your legs if you have a carpet of hair wrapped around them. Legs are probably the easiest body part when it comes to dealing with body hair because all you have to do is trim them to a length at which they don't look too short and pointy, or too long and furry.
Answer: Women don't mind hair on legs. But make sure you trim.

Point to remember
Maintain a balance when it comes to length of the hair while you trim your body hair. For example if you have chest hair but decide to wax off the hair on your legs or vice versa, well, it's just going to look weird and funny.

8 Things Your Jeweler Doesn't Want You To Know About Buying Jewelry

If you don't know what a treated emerald is, the color of a Tanzanite stone, or what it means when a diamond certification has the word "laser path" written in the comments section, than you need to learn a few things before buying your next piece of jewelry! Jewelers are in the business to simply make a buck, or in most cases a lot of bucks! Knowing the "8 things only an honest jeweler will tell you" can keep you from making a BIG Jewelry mistake. The old adage goes something like this:
"If you don't know your jewels, than you better know your jeweler!"
Find an Honest Jeweler
Find an Honest Jeweler | Source
Please don't miss understand my cause here, I am not saying that jewelers are dishonest, the majority of jewelry salespeople are going to do the right thing. But as a consumer, you are ultimately responsible for the fiduciary well being of your own jewelry transactions. It is better to ask a few worthy questions than to end up buying a cow that won't give milk.
When you set out to purchase a diamond, ruby, or an emerald you need to have a few facts in place and some know-how in mind. Blindly buying any gemstone no matter how fancy or expensive, is just what the dishonest jeweler is hoping you will do. The 8 things that an honest jeweler will tell you may not bring world peace, but they will certainly provide you with a more fulfilling jewelry buying experience; and better quality jewelry for the price.

WHAT ARE ASSCHER CUT DIAMONDS?

  • Asscher Cut Diamonds - What Makes Them So Special
No better fashion statement exists than the Asscher cut diamond. Square cut with the ability to bring you deep into the diamond seeing its clarity fully. Buy the dramatic Asscher cut diamond for your special someone and say "I Do" with style.
  • #1. If you Don't Have Jewelry Know-how, Than You Better Get to Know Your Jeweler.

    • If you are a first time jewelry buyer, I suggest you go shopping with a jewelry-savvy friend. Let this friend know what it is you are looking for and how much you can responsibly spend. Then, just sit back and learn. Remember the questions your friend is asking, the request your friend makes, and above all the manner in which an experienced jewelry consumer operates. You may even note that the jeweler and the individual seem to have a relationship of sorts; which is not to be underestimated by any means. Knowing your jeweler can be a significant tactic when buying or investing in good quality jewelry. He is more likely to protect your interest than that of someone he knows he won't bump into down the road or at a community mixer.
    • Ask your jeweler if you can have a few of his business cards. This is telling him you may be referring customers to his jewelry shop. You're building the relationship one step deeper, making him feel an obligation to you as more than just an individual jewelry purchaser. Inviting him to your monthly poker game can't hurt either; you might just win a few of your jewelry dollars back in the long run!

#2. Only Work With Jewelers That Are Credentialed

    • Jewelry is a business that requires great skill, talent, and knowledge. However, on occasion, it only takes a little thing called nepotism. Not that nepotism is a bad thing, but it can be what takes you down a fourth generation jeweled back-alley. The only way to know your jeweler is on the up-and-up is to make sure he is credentialed by the American Gem Society. This is a group of high level jewelers that demand a much higher code of ethics and operate by a significantly higher group of standards. Go ahead and ask to see your jewelers credentials next time you are shopping for nice jewelry; he should be proud to show you just how much he cares about keeping your jewelry business relationship. If he appears offended, you need to find another jeweler!
    • #3. Do Not Buy Expensive Jewelry Cleaner From Your Jeweler

      • When your jeweler takes your dirty ring to that secret backroom to clean it for you (complimentary of course) he is using a top quality jewelry cleaner, right? Not really. What he is most likely using is warm water, gentle detergent, and a soft toothbrush. When he wants to put a supper shine on that diamond ring of yours, he is spritzing a little Windex over it and wiping it dry. So save yourself those extra bucks for jewelry polish and clean your jewelry with these very affective methods.
(Do Not use Windex on any fracture filled diamonds or stones, it will damage the repaired area.)

The Cut of A Fine Stone Makes or Breaks the Brilliance

Light reflects brilliantly whe a diamond is cut properly. The cut is as important as the stone when it comes to quality fine jewelry.

    • #4. Jewelers May Accidentally Lie About Emeralds

      • Just about every emerald today has some form of treatment. What this means is that an oil has been applied to the emerald to enhance the stones clarity. Cedar oil is an acceptable oil as it has no "color revising" qualities about it, it simply dresses up the already good-quality of the emerald. Other oils will apply a green-tinted color to the stone's and are not acceptable, as per the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. These colored-oils are masking flaws and improving the limited enhancements of the emerald, thus masking a low quality stones' bad points, while the minimal good points appear to be a higher grade of gemstone. So, when a jeweler tells you his emeralds are not treated in any way, he is either accidentally lying to you, or he is a very dishonest jeweler.
      • #5. Forget About Jewelry Extended Warranties

        • If throwing away good money is your thing, than by all means buy an extended jewelry warranty. The truth is that this type of warranty is simply a waste of your good money. If you have a rider on your homeowner policy for your jewelry, anything that gets stolen, lost, or damaged will generally be covered by your home policy. Checking with your insurance broker is always best, but don't think for a minute that you need that jewelry shop extended warranty to keep your investment safe. This low-cost method is probably already in place for you to utilize.

#6. Looking For a Blue Stone? A Sapphire is Not Your Only Choice

        • When you begin your quest to find a beautiful blue stone, you are most likely thinking of buying a Sapphire. After all, not too many nice stones of quality sport such cobalt colored style. But, the honest jeweler will let you in on a little secret, a few other stones come in your favorite shade of blue! Tanzanite, Tourmaline, and Spinel are all blue stones, and might just be a little less expensive than a sapphire; surely just as brilliant.
        • The advice here is this, if blue is your beloved's request, be sure you ask your jeweler to show you all of the "blue stones" he carries, not just the priciest sapphire in the shop. Even as these other blue gem stones are brilliantly beautiful, and will dazzle your loved one, they have not received the same grand reviews of the sapphire. Many heavy hitting celebrities have been seen stepping out onto the red-carpet wearing blue stones that are anything but sapphire, yet are truly spectacular! When it's all said-and-done, You may find you have enough left in your budget to buy a matching bracelet for your sweetie; the bonus romance points would seem to be a big motivation for this!

#7. When Buying a Diamond on a Budget, Don't Get Too Freaked out Over The Clarity Grading

        • When people speak of diamonds, clarity grading always comes up. However, when you want to buy your sweetie a nice diamond ring or earrings while on a budget, grading is something you can relax about. Go ahead and come down a couple of clarity grades, no one can see any difference when viewing your diamond with their naked eye. Once you have the diamond mounted into a setting, no one will ever know the difference at all.
        • When diamonds are being graded for clarity they are placed under a special 10x magnification gem scope. The diamond is then viewed by a certified gemologist who really knows what to look for and generally grades every tiny flaw. After all, this is his craft and he is a master of it. Trust me, De Beers—the family of companies that dominate the diamond, diamond mining, diamond trading and industrial diamond manufacturing sectors— wants to know what every fine flaw within a diamond is and in which diamond it was found. The balance of the worldwide diamond market depends on this knowledge.
However; when away from magnification, only your gemologist knows for sure.

#8. Why Don't You Want to See the Word 'Laser' or 'laser path' on Your Diamond Certificate?

        • The most important investment concern when buying a diamond has to do with the certification. A diamond certification is like fingerprinting, it details the stones identity and value. It doesn't assign a monetary value like an appraisal, and is only applied to loose diamonds, but it does provide a mapping so you know what quality of diamond you have on your hands. Knowing how to interpret this certification can keep you from paying far too much for an 'altered' diamond grade.
        • When you read your diamond certification, if you see in the comment section the word "laser" or "laser path" this is telling you that you have an altered diamond. A laser has been applied to the stone. In other words; the diamond has undergone a laser procedure to remove a flaw. This single application can reduce a diamonds true value as much as 40%.
        • Now that you know what the term "laser" is indicating to a diamond buyer, you gain the advantage of knowing how to make a good investment on an altered stone, instead of over paying by 40% like the guy who has no clue about laser diamond procedures.
